Reports: Kings XI Punjab to change name, logo, and jersey before IPL 2021

According to reports, the Kings XI Punjab will change their name, logo, and jersey before the 14th season of the Indian Premier League gets underway. The Mohali-based franchise has never won the IPL championship despite being a part of the tournament since the first season.

The best season for the Kings XI Punjab was the 2014 one, when they finished runner-up behind the Kolkata Knight Riders. The Mohali-based franchise played brilliantly under George Bailey’s leadership. However, they could not lift the coveted trophy.

Over the years, several legendary players like Virender Sehwag, Adam Gilchrist, Hashim Amla, Brett Lee, Irfan Pathan, Yuvraj Singh, Kumar Sangakkara, and Mahela Jayawardene have played for the Kings XI Punjab in the Indian Premier League.

The franchise also has a massive fan-base across the world. However, it seems like the franchise will undergo a rebranding ahead of the fourteenth IPL season. Recently, in the T10 League, the fans saw how the Karnataka Tuskers owners rebranded the franchise to the Pune Devils.

In the same way, the Delhi Daredevils team management changed the team’s name to the Delhi Capitals. The players were same, but the jersey, and the theme song were new. The result was that the Delhi Capitals won their first playoff match in 2019 and then played their first final in 2020.

Even the Rajasthan Royals added pink color to their kit, while the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Royal Challengers Bangalore have changed their logos, achieving contrasting results. It will be interesting to see how this change works out for the Kings XI Punjab.

There has been no official update from the franchise. However, as per the sources, this change will happen next week on February 17. The IPL fans will be highly excited for this thing because stars like Murugan Ashwin, KL Rahul, Chris Gayle, Mayank Agarwal, Mohammed Shami, and Ravi Bishnoi will be in action for Punjab this year.
