Rohit Sharma responds to question if he can win the title with other IPL teams

Rohit Sharma became the first captain to win the IPL title five times when the Mumbai Indians lifted the trophy in the United Arab Emirates this year. The Mukesh Ambani-owned franchise has been quite successful under Rohit’s captaincy.

However, a few cricket experts have questioned whether the franchise would have been so successful had he got a chance to lead any other IPL team. Rohit Sharma opened up to that possibility and stated that the Mumbai Indians have also backed their players, which has helped them become so successful.

In an interview with PTI, Rohit Sharma said that there was a time when even he was available in the auction. The Mumbai Indians signed him and got rich returns. The same case happened with the likes of Kieron Pollard and Hardik Pandya. Here’s what Rohit said:

“Lot of people, I hear say that can he (Rohit) do it with other teams? Firstly, why shall I need to do it with other teams? There is a certain way this franchise wants to go and same direction I want to go as well, both as a player and leader,” Rohit Sharma said.

“And every player, including Rohit Sharma, was available (2011) at auctions. Just that MI picked and believed in building a team,” he continued.

Rohit Sharma and Mumbai Indians have backed many youngsters and transformed into match-winners. The likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Krunal Pandya, Hardik Pandya, and others are the best example of it. On the other side, a few franchises have always released a bunch of players and signed other players at the auction.

Mumbai have adopted the same strategy that made the Chennai Super Kings successful during the first few seasons. This year, CSK also lost their core players and could not perform well. Even the Delhi Capitals are trying to adopt this and they made it to their first IPL final in 2020.
