Rory Burns gets into Twitter battle with Alexandra Hartley; deletes tweet later

Rory Burns has not had a memorable India tour so far. The English opener featured in the two Test matches against the Indian cricket team at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. In the first Test, Burns managed 33 runs in two innings. He scored 33 in the first innings and then got out for a duck in the second innings.

In the second India vs England Test match in Chennai, Burns lost his wicket before opening the account in the first innings. In the second innings, he managed 25 runs. Burns did not earn a place in the England team for the pink-ball Test match at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

Still, it seems like Burns was hurt a lot when England women’s team player Alexandra Hartley tried to take a dig at the men’s team for losing the Ahmedabad Test inside two days.

“Nice of the England boys to get this test match finished just before England Women play tonight,” Alexandra Hartley tweeted.

Most fans have reacted negatively to this tweet. Rory Burns had the following reaction to it.

“Very disappointing attitude considering all the ‘boys’ do to support the Women’s game,” said Rory Burns.

Even Ben Duckett was unhappy as he posted the following tweet, replying to Alexandra Hartley. Senior players agreed with Rory Burns as James Anderson and Ben Stokes like the tweet posted by him. Still, the team management had a word with Burns and the tweet has now been deleted. You can see the deleted tweet here.

Alexandra Hartley later realized that her reaction to England’s defeat against India had resulted in a huge controversy.

“Think it’s been taken the wrong way/out of context. No offence was meant. We are all Test match fans,” Alex Hartley posted another tweet to clarify her intentions behind the first tweet.
