Sakshi Dhoni slams umpires for calling Tom Curran back in RR vs. CSK match; deletes story later
IPL 2020 has begun in the United Arab Emirates and there has been a complete change in the mood of the cricket fans. Earlier, because of the lockdown and other restrictions, everyone was bored with the monotonous life. However, as IPL has returned to the TV screens, every fan is enjoying the current time period.
Although the matches have been fantastic in IPL 2020, the umpiring errors have caught everyone’s eye. In the match between Delhi Capitals and Kings XI Punjab, there was a wrong short run given by the on-field umpire that led to a huge controversy. Team owner Preity Zinta and former Kings XI Punjab captain Virender Sehwag also slammed this decision.
Yesterday, in the match between Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals, there was an instance when Tom Curran was adjudged out but was called back after the third umpire made a decision. However, the manner in which the on-field umpires acted on the field drew criticism towards them.
Chennai Super Kings’ captain MS Dhoni was visibly unhappy with this decision, while even his wife Sakshi Singh Dhoni did not like the attitude of the umpires. She slammed the on-field officials on Instagram by posting the following statement on her story.
"First time I have seen the third umpire is being referred after the player has been given out! Umpiring needs to be improved in such a prestigious tournament! Billions watching it! @iplt20". She later took down the story.
BCCI would have surely taken note of this development because Sakshi tagged iplt20’s official Instagram handle in her story. The umpiring level has not been up to the mark in IPL 2020, but even the officials are working after a 6-months break. Thus, there is a chance that there might be minor errors from their side during the first few weeks. The fans should stay optimistic and expect the standards to go up as the tourney progresses.
