Schedule announced for the upcoming Big Bash League

Cricket Australia has recently announced the schedule for the upcoming Big Bash League (BBL) 2020-21 season which is all set to start in December, but they mentioned the fact that the schedule might be affected by the global pandemic novel COVID-19 outbreak. The T20 league might clash with the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League which is expected to take place in that time and considers as one of the most entertaining and cash-rich tournaments across the globe as well.

The 10th edition of the Big Bash League will begin on December 3rd when the Adelaide Strikers will take on the Melbourne Renegades. As many as 60 matches will be played across the country whereas the final will take place on February 6th.

On the other hand, the beginning of the league means Cricket Australia will have to meet with its commitments to broadcasters and would not face penalties for reduced content as well. However, with the planning of this league, the board has to keep in mind the fact that they have a restriction on travel. This might pose trouble for the fixtures.

However, Cricket Australia’s Big Bash chief Alistair Dobson said that the league would follow all the health advice and will ensure the safety of the public, players and support staff as well. “scheduling in the time of coronavirus comes with its challenges, as we have seen,” said Dobson. There are factors outside the league itself which could impact the schedule at a later date.”

Meanwhile, Australia A tours and Cricket Australia XI matches have been postponed owing to the virus but the domestic Sheffield Shield and home international series will be played according to the plan. It also includes a four-match Test series against India. However, the tournament opener of BBL 2020-21 will clash with the start of India’s much-awaited tour of Australia and it’s expected that Australia's star players including Steve Smith and David Warner, will feature in the initial stages of the T20 league.
