"We are really waiting" - Harmanpreet Kaur hopeful of Women's IPL

 

Indian women's cricket team players have enjoyed a wonderful time in Australia, playing in the Women's Big Bash League 2021.

As much as 10 Indian women's cricket team players were playing in the Australian Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) 2021. From Harmanpreet Kaur to Smriti Mandhana were all participating in the competition.

While India is one of most powerhouses of the Men's cricket, the level of Women's is very different. The women's cricket is nowhere near the men's cricket.

However, in the last couple of years, India have started to produce some top quality players, the likes of Harmanpreet Kaur or Smriti Mandhana.

Talking of Harmanpreet Kaur, the Indian women's T20I cricket team captain had a glorious season in the Women's Big Bash League 2021.

She is one of the best performer in the league along with Smriti Mandhana. Harmanpreet Kaur has, as of writing this, played 12 matches and has scored 399 runs at an average of 66.50. She is also the highest wicket-taker for Melbourne Renegades Women's team, picking up 15 wickets.

Most notably, she has been named the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) 2021 Player of the Tournament, thus, became the very first Indian player to accomplish this achievement.

Her performance caught the eyes of many, and eventually led to the demand starting a Women's IPL. There has been rumour that the BCCI has a plan to do a Women's IPL, but have been so far not able to do so. Instead, they are organizing a 3 team T20 tournament called Women's T20 Challenge.

According to a quote from ESPNcricinfo from Harmanpreet Kaur, the Indian women's T20I captain stated that they have been waiting for the Women's IPL from a long time, and as soon as it starts, they will start inviting overseas players to share their experience with the Indian players.

While Harmanpreet Kaur had a stunning campaign, Smriti Mandhana was not far off from her. The talismanic left-hand batter scored 377 runs in 13 matches, while Jemimah Rodriguez also scored 312 runs from 12 matches, playing as Harmanpreet's teammate.
