5 India-born cricketers who have been a part of Caribbean Premier League

 

India is home to the biggest T20 league in the world - The Indian Premier League. It is the world's most valuable cricket league in 2021. Looking at the success of the IPL, many cricket boards launched their own franchise cricket tournament. Two-time world champions West Indies have their own T20 league named as the Caribbean Premier League.

Quite a few big names of world cricket participate in this league. Many fans would know that the BCCI does not allow its active players to participate in foreign men's leagues. Only after retirement have some players been able to play the foreign leagues. However, some active India-born players have even managed to play in the Caribbean Premier League as a player from another nation.

In this article, we will list those five cricketers who were born in India and have been a part of the CPL T20 competition.

5. Ish Sodhi

Ish Sodhi has become one of the most dangerous leg-spin bowlers in the shorter formats of the game. The 28-year-old from Ludhiana is among the top Kiwi T20 spin bowlers right now.

Courtesy of his wicket-taking skills, Sodhi has bagged contracts from multiple franchises in the world. In CPL T20, Sodhi has been a part of the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots as well as the Jamaica Tallawahs.

4. Sunny Sohal was a part of Barbados Tridents in Caribbean Premier League

Sunny Sohal is one of the few Indian cricketers who have been a part of the IPL as well as the CPL. Unlike Ish Sodhi, Sohal played in the IPL as a local player.

A few years later, the Punjab-born cricketer decided to switch to the United States. Currently, he plays international cricket for the USA team and was also a member of the Barbados Tridents team in CPL T20.

3. Pravin Tambe won the Caribbean Premier League 2020

Pravin Tambe was a part of the Rajasthan Royals, the Sunrisers Hyderabad and the Gujarat Lions team in IPL. When KKR bought him at IPL Auction 2020, BCCI barred him from playing because he had played in overseas leagues.

Trinbago Knight Riders then signed Tambe in the CPL draft. In his first season itself, Tambe won the Caribbean Premier League title with the Knight Riders. He had grabbed the headlines because of his fantastic catch in the tournament.

2. Timil Patel

Born in Ahmedabad, Timil Kaushik Patel is a cricketer who plays for the United States of America team. Patel played U-19 cricket for India before moving to America.

The 37-year-old leg-spinner also played domestic cricket for Gujarat. Speaking of his CPL career, the all-rounder has been a member of the St. Lucia Stars team.

1. Saurabh Netravalkar

Mumbai-born left-arm fast-medium pace bowler Saurabh Netravalkar is the skipper of the United States of America cricket team right now. Netravalkar also played U-19 cricket for India and represented Mumbai in domestic circuit.

Just like Timil Patel, he has moved to the USA now and started his international cricket career there. Netravalkar earned a contract from the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the CPL T20 competition.
