5 players who featured in CSK's playing XI only once in the IPL
Chennai Super Kings has been the most consistent outfit in the Indian Premier League history. The Chennai-based franchise has won the IPL trophy three times, while it has made it to the Top 4 in every season it has played.
MS Dhoni has been one of the key reasons behind the team’s success so far. The main aim of Chennai has been to retain their core and build the team around the team. Over the years, many players have joined the Chennai Super Kings team. However, not every player has had an extended stay at the franchise. In this article, we will look at the five players who played only one match for Chennai in the IPL.
1.Vijay Shankar
Indian all-rounder Vijay Shankar represented the nation in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. The right-handed batsman is a part of Sunrisers Hyderabad right now, but there was a time when he featured in the Chennai Super Kings squad. Since he did not have much experience and Chennai had some big match-winners like Subramaniam Badrinath and Albie Morkel in the team, they used Vijay Shankar in only a solitary game.
2.Arun Karthik
Many Royal Challengers Bangalore fans would remember Arun Karthik because of his last-ball six in a Champions League T20 match. Karthik was also a part of Chennai Super Kings in the IPL. Unfortunately, since he was a back-up wicket-keeping option, he did not get enough chances. The primary reason behind it was MS Dhoni’s presence in the team, and in the T20 format, the teams usually avoid playing two wicket-keeper batsmen in the XI.
3.Thisara Perera
Sri Lankan all-rounder Thisara Perera played for many franchises in his IPL career, and one of them was MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings. Perera began his IPL journey as a part of Chennai Super Kings in 2010. However, the team management released him after giving him only one game.
Perera later played for Kochi Tuskers Kerala, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Kings XI Punjab, Mumbai Indians, and Rising Pune Supergiant. Although he could not succeed much in the IPL, Perera holds a unique record of hitting more sixes than fours in his IPL career.
4.Mark Wood
English fast bowler Mark Wood was a part of the Chennai Super Kings playing XI in the IPL 2018 season opener against Mumbai Indians. As the Englishman got bashed by the Mumbai batsmen, Chennai dropped him from the team.
Subsequently, the team management released him from the squad and Wood never came back to the IPL.
5.Chandrasekar Ganapathy
Very few IPL fans may remember Chandrasekar Ganapathy’s only match in the league as he did not contribute much to the team’s cause. Ganapathy played his first and last IPL game against Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2010.
The all-rounder bowled one over in that game, where he conceded 13 runs to the opposition. He came out to bat at number seven in the run chase but the job was done before Ganapathy could face even a single ball. The medium-pacer never featured in an IPL match after 2010.
