5 teams that could stop CSK from signing Shardul Thakur at mega auction

Shardul Thakur has become one of the best all-rounders in India over the last few months. Thanks to his excellent performances in Test cricket and limited-overs matches, fans now consider Thakur as an all-rounder and not just a bowler. While the Maharashtra-based player has done well with the bat in international cricket, he is yet to do so in the IPL.

However, fans should note that Thakur played for CSK, a team that batted deep. So Thakur did not get enough chances to showcase his talent with the bat, but he was the best bowler for the team in IPL 2021. Unfortunately, CSK could not retain Thakur because of the mega-auction rules. CSK will try their best to sign Shardul at the mega auction, but the following five franchises can stop them.

1. Ahmedabad can target Shardul Thakur

Ahmedabad IPL franchise has made it clear that they will go for all-rounders and players who will play at least four-five years more. Shardul Thakur ticks both boxes, which is why he could join the Ahmedabad-based franchise.

2. Mumbai Indians

As mentioned ahead, Thakur is from Maharashtra, and there is only one franchise from the state in IPL - Mumbai Indians. MI will benefit a lot if they sign Thakur because they have lost Hardik Pandya to Ahmedabad. Also, Thakur has a great bonding with captain Rohit Sharma.

3. Punjab Kings

Punjab Kings have the highest auction purse before IPL 2022 Auction. The Kings signed Thakur before, but they could not utilize him to his full potential. They can now re-sign him at the mega auction and give him the backing he deserves.

4. Rajasthan Royals

Rajasthan Royals have lost Chris Morris and Ben Stokes ahead of the mega auction. Both all-rounders will not be part of the mega auction, which is why RR will need a pace-bowling all-rounder, and they could go for Shardul Thakur.

5. Delhi Capitals
