9 Popular Indians Who Played In Both Hong Kong Cricket Sixes And IPL

 

Hong Kong Cricket Sixes is a popular tournament that was taking place from the end of the previous century to recently until a few years ago. It was an entertaining format where each team would have only six players. There would be five overs for each squad, and each bowler can bowl only one over.

India has also participated in this tournament. In fact, some popular cricketers have also made their presence felt in this format. In this article, we take a look at nine popular Indian cricketers who played it and also in IPL.

1) MS Dhoni - Played Hong Kong Cricket Sixes In 2004

Yes, you read that right! The legendary MS Dhoni was also part of the event at one point in time. In 2004, the famous IPL cricketer was part of the team that played in this competition. Of course, considering his big-hitting skills, it was not a surprising selection.

2) Dinesh Karthik

In the 2011 edition of the tournament, Dinesh Karthik was the captain of Team India. DK played a few blinders and helped the team do well on a couple of occasions. He has also been part of IPL, ever since the inception of the competition in 2008.

3) Mayank Agarwal

When Dinesh Karthik was the captain of the squad, Mayank Agarwal was in the team as one of the main batsmen. Mayank was not that established then but still played a few good cameos under DK's leadership.

4) Anil Kumble - Captained India In Hong Kong Cricket Sixes

Even the legendary Anil Kumble has been part of the competition. In fact, the former RCB skipper has led the country in a couple of seasons. In IPL, Kumble was part as a player for the first three editions only.

5) Manish Pandey

In 2009, Manish Pandey became the first Indian centurion in IPL. The same year, Manish played under the leadership of Anil Kumble in the Hong Kong Super Sixes tournament. He was India's top scorer in a few encounters.

6) Sachin Tendulkar - Played Hong Kong Cricket Sixes In the 90s

The tournament was quite popular in the 1990s. Sachin Tendulkar has also been part of the event. Of course, he also played in IPL, where he represented the Mumbai Indians and also won the championship.

7) Rajat Bhatia

Rajat Bhatia has played close to 100 games in IPL. The Delhi all-rounder has also been part of the Hong Kong Super Sixes contest. He contributed well in both departments of the game, just like the way he did in his entire career for Delhi in the domestic circuit.

8) Stuart Binny

Stuart Binny played in ICL, IPL and even in this tournament. He was also successful in this five-over format, where he delivered a few good innings and a couple of memorable spells.

9) Sunil Joshi

A legendary domestic cricketer, Sunil Joshi played a couple of seasons in the Hong Kong tournament. The left-arm spinner, who also has an India cap, was part of RCB for the first few editions. He is also a popular coach and was recently the chief selector of Team India.
