A Strong XI Comprising Of Duos Of Famous Twin Brothers In Cricket

Cricket is a popular game that also has a long history. Hence, it is not a surprise if we have seen players emerging from the same family. In fact, we have also been instances wherein twins have also played the professional form of the game. In this article, we take a look at a strong balanced XI comprising of duos of famous twin brothers in cricket.

It is amazing that brothers who are born together also play the game together and not stopping there, even achieve heights of their careers in the sport. In both men's and women's cricket, several pairs of twins have been part of the game. We take a look at a balanced XI comprising twin brothers.

Openers: Mark Waugh and Baba Aparajith

Of course, Mark Waugh and Steve Waugh are some of the most famous twin brothers in cricket. Both Mark and Steve were terrific batsmen across formats, and importantly, they also had a lot to provide to the team with the ball in hand. This made the twins an undroppable duo in the Australian squad of the 90s.

Baba Aparajith and Baba Indrajith are recent famous twin brothers in cricket. Of course, both are yet to play for India but they have the talent to achieve a lot in the game. Especially Aparajith, who can still have a bright future if luck goes his way. He has been consistent for Tamil Nadu in recent seasons and deserves an opportunity in IPL and India A tours at the earliest.

Middle-Order: Hamish Marshall, James Marshall, Sultan Rana (WK) and Baba Indrajith

Hamish Marshall and James Marshall will form the core of the middle-order of this XI comprising of duos of famous twin brothers in cricket. When the duo made their debut against Australia, including opposition captain Ricky Ponting, no one was able to tell the difference between the two. It was only when Hamish donned a wrist band that sanity was brought to the proceedings.

Azmat and Sultan Rana are Pakistani players who did well in FC cricket. Azmat also played a couple of games for his country. Sultan was an occasional wicket-keeper who had an average of 29 in FC cricket.

Although Aparajith has achieved more in a shorter time, Indrajith is not far behind. He, too, does well often with the bat and is also a useful candidate with the ball.

All-Rounders: Steve Waugh (C) and Craig Overton

Steve Waugh was a brilliant captain and batsman, but he also contributed massively with the ball. The fact that he has 195 ODI wickets shows that he was more than just a part-time bowler. On the other hand, Craig Overton is more of a bowling all-rounder who is a popular cricketer in the County Championship and has played 4 Tests and ODIs each for England so far.

Bowlers: Alec Bedser, Eric Bedser, and Jamie Overton

Alec and Eric Bedser were legendary pairs of twins for England in the yesteryear era. In fact, Alec was a fast-bowler who retired as one of the highest wicket-takers in the game. He also bowled with a remarkable average. Eric was a spinner and played more FC cricket than his twin brother. While these two would form the bowling attack, they would be aided by Jamie Overton, who has played a lot of games in the County.

12th Man - Azmat Rana

Azmat played only one Test, although he had a stunning average of 48 in FC cricket. He also played 2 ODI's for Pakistan. He will be the 12th man for this XI.
