List of Cricketers who featured in 2008 U-19 World Cup and played international cricket at senior level

 

The 2008 U-19 World Cup was a special one for the cricket universe. Malaysia hosted the cricket competition, where the Indian U-19 team defeated South Africa U-19s in a close final to win the trophy. 

Many cricket fans know that Virat Kohli led the Indian team in that ICC U-19 World Cup. However, along with Kohli, many other current stars were also a part of the competition. Here is the full list of those cricketers. 

Australia 

Josh Hazlewood, Steve Smith, and Marcus Stoinis are three players from 2008 U-19 World Cup, currently playing for Australia. 

Apart from these three cricketers, Philip Hughes, James Pattinson, and James Faulkner were also a part of that squad. 

Bangladesh

Not many players from Bangladesh U-19 team of 2008 could break into the senior team. Wicket-keeper Mohammad Mithun has made it to the senior team. 

Apart from that, fast bowler Rubel Hossain, all-rounder Nasir Hossain, and Rony Talukdar have also played international cricket. 

England

Alex Wakely and Ben Brown were the captain and vice-captain of the England team in the 2008 U-19 World Cup. Both rising stars could not convert their starts. 

Chris Woakes has been the most successful player from that squad, whereas Liam Dawson, Steven Finn, Stuart Meaker, and James Taylor also represented England. 

India

As mentioned ahead, Virat Kohli captained India in the 2008 U-19 World Cup. Currently, he is leading the Indian cricket team in all formats. 

Ravindra Jadeja was the vice-captain of the Indian U-19 team. Manish Pandey and Siddarth Kaul also won that World Cup in 2008. 

Ireland

All-rounder Greg Thompson was the captain of the Ireland U-19 team. Current Ireland senior skipper Andy Balbirnie was the wicket-keeper of the 2008 U-19 squad. 

Wicket-keeper Stuart Poynter and all-rounder Paul Stirling have also achieved success at the senior level. 

Nepal

Gyanendra Malla and Paras Khadka were the vice-captain and the skipper of the Nepal U-19 team respectively.

Both players proved to be successful in the senior level cricket matches also. However, the others could not impress much. 

New Zealand

Current New Zealand captain Kane Williamson led the Kiwis in the 2008 U-19 World Cup. Corey Anderson, who recently switched to the USA, was also a part of the team. 

Along with Anderson and Williamson, the likes of Trent Boult, Tim Southee, George Worker, and Hamish Rutherford also represented the Blackcaps in the 2008 U-19 World Cup. 

Pakistan

Imad Wasim captained Pakistan U-19s, while Shan Masood was his deputy. Both players have been greatly successful at the senior level. 

Umar Akmal also played for the Pakistan U-19s in 2008 World Cup. Ahmed Shehzad, Junaid Khan, and Umar Amin are other players from that team who played international cricket for the senior team. 

South Africa

Wayne Parnell guided South Africa U-19s to the final of the 2008 World Cup. Current SA team members Reeza Hendricks and Pieter Malan played in that tournament. 

Even Rilee Rossouw was a part of that squad with Jon-Jon Smuts. 

Sri Lanka

Ashan Priyanjan captained Sri Lanka U-19s in 2008 World Cup. Dinesh Chandimal kept the wickets for the team. 

The likes of Dilshan Munaweera, Sachith Pathirana, Angelo Perera, Kusal Perera, Thisara Perera, and Lahiru Thirimanne were a part of the U-19 squad in 2008.

West Indies

Current WI star Sharmarh Brooks was the captain of the U-19 team in 2008 World Cup. 

Darren Bravo, Veerasamy Permaul, Kieran Powell, and Adrian Barath are some names who represented West Indies at the senior level. 

Zimbabwe

Six players of the Zimbabwe U-19 cricket team managed to play at the senior level. Captain Prince Masvaure, Kyle Jarvis, Solomon Mire, Peter Moor, Tinotenda Mutombodzi, and Njabulo Ncube are the six names. 

One member of the U-19 squad Reginald Nehonde has become a part of Botswana team now.
