Different Nation ODI WC

The 2023 ODI World Cup will happen in India later this year. We have often seen players representing two different nations. However, at the World Cup level, it is rare. Nevertheless, it has happened before and could happen once more for the upcoming event. Here, we take a look at one cricketer who played for one nation in the 2015 ODI World Cup but might play for a different country in the 2023 ODI World Cup.

Gary Ballance might represent Zimbabwe in the 2023 ODI World Cup

Gary Ballance was a part of the 2015 ODI World Cup squad for England. It was a tough outing for England. However, it all ended well as there was a revolutionary approach that got triggered then. Since then, England has won the 2019 World Cup and the 2022 T20 World Cup.

Meanwhile, a few months ago, Ballance made the move to Zimbabwe, his home nation. He even played Test cricket for them and did a terrific job. Zimbabwe is yet to qualify for the 2023 ODI World Cup but if they get there, surely, Ballance will be a part of the squad. His role will be vital in ensuring that Zimbabwe travels to India.

England will be one of the favourites again

England will yet again start as the favourites at the 2023 ODI WC. Despite many injury issues, they won the 2022 T20 WC. However, they will now get strengthened with the return of Jonny Bairstow and Jofra Archer for the tournament. Yes, Ben Stokes is a big miss but England has the resources to replace Stokes. England will have to be wary of injury issues, though. 50-over World Cup requires specialists and they have to be in good form for the team to succeed.
