10 Indian U-19 cricket players who started well but unluckily could not make it big
Cricket is very popular in Asia. Almost every young kid dreams to become a cricketer and represent his nation at the global level. However, becoming a top cricket star is not everyone’s cup of tea because the process needs immense patience, dedication, and hard work.
Players like Virat Kohli, Steve Smith, Ben Stokes, Kane Williamson are among the top names in world cricket right now. These players first played in the U-19 World Cup. However, in this listicle, we will look at those ten Indian U-19 stars who started well but could not make it big.
Unmukt Chand
#OnThisDay in 2012, skipper Unmukt Chand led India to their third ICC #U19 World Cup title.

His brilliant 111* powered his side to a six-wicket win over Australia in Townsville. pic.twitter.com/bNlpw33khC
Unmukt Chand came into the limelight after leading India to the 2012 U-19 World Cup. He was the best batsman for India U-19s in the tournament.
Also, he scored a century in the final. Unfortunately, he could continue his form in the IPL and the domestic arena. Despite receiving multiple opportunities, Unmukt could not replicate his U-19 brilliance.
Vijay Zol

Vijay Zol played two U-19 World Cups for India. He won the title under Chand’s captaincy in 2012. Two years later, he led the India U-19 team.
Unfortunately, despite performing well in the two World Cups, Zol could not do well in the IPL as well as the domestic circuit. He is still young and can come back. However, his inconsistency might hurt his chances.
Ricky Bhui

IPL fans might know Ricky Bhui once played for SRH. Bhui had done a great job with the bat in the 2014 and the 2016 U-19 World Cups.
He received very few opportunities in the IPL. And, he could not make them count. Thus, he has faded away after an impressive run at the U-19 level.
Taruwar Kohli
The only Kohli to score a First-class triple hundred turns only 32 today.
— Abhishek Mukherjee (@ovshake42) December 16, 2020
In fact, Taruwar Kohli has two:
300* for Punjab vs Jharkhand, 2012-13
307* for Mizoram vs Arunachal, 2019-20
Both Kohlis did pretty well in the 2008 Under-19 World Cup, too. pic.twitter.com/BcWRSRmXir
Two Kohlis played for India in the U-19 World Cup. One is the Indian team skipper right now, while the second is playing domestic cricket for Mizoram.
Taruwar scored 218 runs in six matches of the 2008 U-19 World Cup. However, a lack of consistency led to his decline.

Yo Mahesh took 11 wickets in six matches of the 2006 U-19 World Cup. He played for Chennai Super Kings and Delhi.
Sadly, his career never took off at the senior level in international cricket. Mahesh recently announced his retirement from cricket.
Abu Nechim Ahmed

Abu Nechim Ahmed was Yo Mahesh’s fast bowling partner in the 2006 U-19 World Cup. He played for RCB and MI in IPL.
Although he scalped 10 wickets and did a decent job in IPL, he never got his big breakthrough. Currently, he is playing domestic cricket for Assam.
