11 players part of previous BGT but not in the Indian squad right now
The last time India faced Australia in Tests, it was a memorable victory for the men in blue. It has been two years and since then, a lot of changes have happened in the Indian Team. As many as 12 players who played in that series are not part of the Indian squad that will play in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy this year. On that note, in this article, we take a look at 11 players part of the previous BGT but are not in the Indian squad right now.
1) Mayank Agarwal
Mayank Agarwal displayed gaps in his technique in overseas conditions and hence, lost his spot in Team India. He has been in poor form and hence, the likes of Shubman Gill have gone ahead of him in the pecking order.
2) Prithvi Shaw
Prithvi Shaw is one of the players part of the previous BGT but is not in the Indian squad right now. Shaw had a poor outing in the first game of that series. Since then, he has not played a Test for Team India.
3) Ajinkya Rahane
Ajinkya Rahane was dropped from Team India a few months ago. Since then, the skipper of that series win is yet to find a way back to the Indian Team.
4) Hanuma Vihari
Hanuma Vihari had a sensation session in the third game of the BGT. However, he is currently out of Team India despite getting very few opportunities to prove his case.
5) Washington Sundar
Washington Sundar is also one of the players part of the previous BGT but is not in the Indian squad right now. He was one of the bright debutantes in that series. However, with Axar Patel doing well as the spinner and the series happening in India, Sundar has been sidelined.
6) Shardul Thakur
Shardul Thakur is not a requirement in the Indian Test Team when the squad plays at home. Hence, as expected, he is not in the squad named by BCCI on Friday.
7) Rishabh Pant
Pant was unfortunately involved in an accident and had to miss this year. In the previous BGT, his innings helped India win the game in BGT. If he was available, Pant would have been the most important member of the squad.
8) T Natarajan
T Natarajan is also one of the players part of the previous BGT but is not in the Indian squad right now. It was due to injury issues in the Indian Team that Nattu made his Test debut at the Gabba. As expected, he has not played a Test since then.
9) Navdeep Saini
Navdeep Saini has had injury issues and in terms of competition, too, he has a lot on his plate. In fact, he is yet to play for India since the last BGT.
10) Wriddhiman Saha
Saha is out of Team India at the moment. KS Bharat and Ishan Kishan will be the keepers for Team India in the upcoming series.
11) Jasprit Bumrah (not available for the first two tests)
Jasprit Bumrah, due to fitness issues, is not available for the first two Tests against Australia. If fit, he could make a comeback for the remaining games.
