3 former Kings XI Punjab players who could potentially become Punjab Kings Head Coach for IPL 2023

Punjab Kings

Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Punjab Kings have reportedly decided to not renew the contract of the team's head coach Anil Kumble once the contract expires. According to reports, the franchise is currently in the hunt for their next boss.

The Punjab Kings have reportedly parted ways with their head coach Anil Kumble following an association of three seasons. However, Kumble's record as Punjab Kings' head coach is not so very special as he failed to guide his to the playoffs even once during his stint.

Reports suggests that even though no official confirmation yet from Punjab Kings, the franchise is looking to complete the deal with potential new boss by next week.

With that mind, there are couple of very good coaches available to select from. However, today in this article, we take a look at 3 former Punjab Kings or former Kings XI Punjab players who could be considered for the potential Punjab Kings head coach role.

Daren Sammy

Former West Indies all-rounder and captain Daren Sammy is the very first name in our pick box. The veteran West Indies cricketer had a brief spell with the Punjab franchise in the year 2017 for just a year. The T20 World Cup winning captain has currently retired from playing cricket and is currently trying out his hands in coaching and could be open to a job in the IPL.

Eoin Morgan

Another World Cup winning captain in our list is Eoin Morgan. The most recent to win the 50 overs World Cup for England and in process also became the only England captain ever to win the World Cup for the England team.

He credentials prove that he has no lack of leadership. Not only did he won the World Cup for England, he also guided the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to IPL 2021 final which they unfortunately lost to CSK. Morgan has currently retired from International cricket and could be interested in coaching job. He played for the Punjab franchise in 2017 season.

Yuvraj Singh

The next name in our list is the journeyman in the history of the IPL and one of Indian team's important member of the 2011 Cricket World Cup winning squad. The Indian all-rounder is a very well recognised name but is yet to test himself in coaching role.

He played for the Punjab Kings (or erstwhile Kings XI Punjab) in two different stints. He had his first stint from 2008 till 2010 and then once again featured for them in 2018. Though Yuvraj is yet to try himself in coaching, he would be very eager to start his journey, especially with his home team.
