3 players who can replace Aaron Finch as the T20I captain of Australia
In what was a shocker, Australia did not qualify for the semis of the 2022 T20 World Cup. The hosts were one of the favourites to lift the trophy. There will be a lot of changes expected even including replacing the skipper. Aaron Finch might also retire from T20Is. Pat Cummins, the ODI skipper, recently did not find a place in the T20 XI and hence, having him as the skipper may not be wise. On that note, in this article, we take a look at 3 players who can replace Aaron Finch as the T20I captain of Australia.
1) David Warner
If Australia is looking for a short-term solution, David Warner will be the best option. If his captaincy ban is removed, Warner can come in as the skipper. As seen in the IPL, Warner is a brilliant captain and has the ability to influence games with his on-field decisions. Despite his poor form in T20 World Cup, he might still be backed as the opener, at least, until the 2024 T20 World Cup.
2) Glenn Maxwell
Glenn Maxwell is one of the players who can replace Aaron Finch as the T20I captain of Australia. Considering the experience of Maxi in this format, it would be best to have him as the captain. Age-wise, too, Maxwell ticks the box. Leading in the Big Bash League, Maxwell showed that he has a sharp mind. He also contributes to both departments of the game and hence, is a good option.
3) Matthew Wade
With Aaron Finch missing, Wade was the captain of Australia in the T20 World Cup. However, Wade is in the final few years of his career and may not be the right option to replace Finch. However, if Australia is looking for a short-term option, Wade is also a possibility.
