3 players who might replace Aaron Finch as Australia ODI captain

Aaron Finch ODI Retirement Captain

Aaron Finch has announced his retirement from ODI cricket. The board is yet to announce his replacement as the skipper. There are plenty of options for Australia, though. On that note, in this article, we take a look at 3 players who might replace Aaron Finch as Australia's ODI captain.

1) Pat Cummins

Pat Cummins is the skipper of the Test squad and it is likely that he will take over the reins from Finch in ODI cricket, too. The tall pacer is a consistent part of the ODI setup and keeping the 2023 ODI World Cup in mind, he can be a suitable option. That said, there could be a discussion on his workload and if the management thinks captaincy might put pressure on Cummins, the responsibility could go to others.

2) Steve Smith

Steve Smith is one of the players who might replace Aaron Finch as Australia's ODI captain. The team's premier batter has led the team in the past. Although in T20Is, his position in the XI can come under the scanner, he is a sure-shot inclusion in ODIs. Hence, the ideal option for Australia would be to make Steve Smith the skipper of the ODI setup. It would help the balance of the side and would allow the management to be more flexible about the other positions.

3) Glenn Maxwell

Just keeping the 2023 ODI World Cup in mind, Maxwell could also be an option for the role. In a tournament that will be held in India, Maxwell will be one of the most important players for Australia as the spin bowling all-rounder. Maxi has led his BBL franchise in the past but leading Australia will be a tougher challenge. Nevertheless, he has the right attitude and winning mentality to take the squad forward in this format.
