3 youngsters who could be groomed as vice-captains in IPL 2023

Sundar SRH

Considering the troubles a few franchises have faced in recent times due to captaincy, it would be best if all franchises plan the transition well in advance. As per this, a few teams could appoint young vice-captains so that they get a taste of the role that they could take up in the future. On that note, in this article, we take a look at three youngsters who could be groomed as vice-captains in IPL 2023.

1) Ruturaj Gaikwad - Chennai Super Kings

MS Dhoni will most likely play his last season in 2023. Ben Stokes is a probable replacement but with his international commitments, the Englishman cannot be relied upon. Jadeja may not take up the captaincy role after his failure last season. Therefore, the best bet for CSK would be to groom Gaikwad, who has the experience leading Maharashtra.

2) Washington Sundar - Sunrisers Hyderabad

Washington Sundar is one of the youngsters who could be groomed as vice-captains in IPL 2023. Aiden Markram will lead SRH in IPL 2023. For the future, the franchise must plan for an Indian captain so that it would help the balance. Mayank Agarwal is not in great IPL form and may not be suitable. Hence, Washington Sundar is an ideal candidate. He missed a lot of games due to an injury last season. If he can address that, considering his experience of leading a team in the TNPL, Sundar would be a fine option for SRH.

3) Prithvi Shaw - Delhi Capitals

As per reports, Axar Patel is likely to be David Warner's deputy for IPL 2023. However, Warner is suffering from an injury and if he is unavailable, Prithvi Shaw could get the chance of becoming the vice-captain. Shaw is the captain of the Mumbai side in domestic cricket and has also win a few trophies, including the U19 World Cup. Therefore, he would be the best option for DC.
