4 ILT20 cricketers who might prefer to play next year in SA20 League

ILT20 SA20

A few months ago, there was an open race between SA20 League and International League T20 to procure cricketers. At that time, it was an interesting prediction on which tournament will end up being more popular. Cut to a few months later, SA20 is way more popular than ILT20. Contract restrictions aside, a few players might be open to moving to SA20 League for the next season. In this article, we take a look at four ILT20 cricketers who might play next year in SA20 League.

While money is a factor, players also want to be a part of the big leagues. Since SA20 is relatively a shorter league, players would be happy joining this league compared to ILT20, where opportunities might come but recognition is not guaranteed.

1) Moeen Ali

Moeen Ali is one of the ILT20 cricketers who might play in the SA20 League next year. It is surprising that Moeen picked ILT20 ahead of SA20 a few months ago. Considering his stature and the skillsets that he has, SA20 franchises would have tried hard to have him in the squad. Moeen now has a captaincy assignment in ILT20 and it needs to be seen if he would get a chance to participate in the South African league.

2) Alex Hales

Alex Hales has been in phenomenal touch in the International League T20. Such is his quality that it would be better for him from a competitive side to participate in SA20 rather than in ILT20. Despite doing so well in ILT20, Hales has not been getting much recognition compared to the likes of Will Jacks and Phil Salt, who have become popular due to their performances in SA20.

3) Rovman Powell

Rovman Powell is also one of the ILT20 cricketers who might play in the SA20 League next year. Captaining the Dubai Capitals, the owners could check if there is an option to bring the West Indian to the middle order of Pretoria Capitals. James Neesham has not done well till now for Pretoria and it might not be a bad option to swap the two players. Powell is a bg-hitter and such a player is needed at Pretoria Capitals. Therefore, he is also on this list.

4) Nicholas Pooran

Despite being one of the high-profile cricketers, Nicholas Pooran chose to play in the ILT20. At ILT20, he plays for MI Emirates and a player of his skills can be useful in MI Cape Town, too. Moreover, now that Lucknow Super Giants has signed the player for IPL 2023. The owners could try to have him in the same group by signing him for Durban Super Giants. That said, a lot of contractual complexities could be involved and this move may not be a guarantee.
