4 Indian cricketers who retired 5 years ago and can be eligible for the BCCI Selection Committee
On Friday, BCCI sacked the entire selection panel. The board also invited applicants to take up the role. As per the criteria, the applicants should have retired five years ago and must have also played a certain number of games for India and domestic cricket. In this article, we take a look at four Indian cricketers who retired 5 years ago and can be eligible for the BCCI Selection Committee.
The applicants should have retired from the game at least five years ago. This is a decent criterion to include former players who are aware of the modern game. Hence, we could witness some popular names throwing their hat into the ring. We take a look at some names who are eligible for the role:
1) Aakash Chopra
Aakash Chopra is one of the Indian cricketers who retired 5 years ago and can be eligible for the BCCI Selection Committee. It will actually be interesting if Aakash Chopra does take the leap. Often, on his Twitter or YouTube account, Aakash has given out opinions that make a lot of sense. He has also played in the IPL and has a fair idea of the modern atmosphere. However, a while ago, Aakash confirmed that at least for this cycle, he would not be interested in the role.
2) Ajit Agarkar
Last time around, Ajit was very close to becoming the Chief Selector but it did not materialize. However, there is a possibility that he could take up the role this time. The former Indian player was an underrated cricketer, who did extremely well in ODIs. He also has many memorable batting performances to his name. He is the assistant coach of the Delhi Capitals and might have to sacrifice this role to get involved with Team India.
3) Zaheer Khan
Zaheer Khan is also one of the Indian cricketers who retired 5 years ago and can be eligible for the BCCI Selection Committee. The former India pacer has been a part of the Mumbai Indians group for a while now. He was recently promoted within the organization. He will have to give this up if he has to take up a role with the BCCI.
4) L Balaji
The Tamil Nadu speedster can actually be an interesting option. He has been a part of the backroom staff of franchises such as CSK and still has a role. An intelligent cricketer, Balaji earned a place in the Indian Team after his initial stint due to his exploits in the IPL. Just like Ajit and Zaheer, he also has to get disassociated with CSK if wants a career with the BCCI.
