In ODI cricket, it is not easy for an opener to score runs in every match. There is pressure on the openers to give a good start. If any team has to score or chase a big target, then scoring runs is the most important thing for the openers. When the opener fails to score runs, the team is unable to score big runs under pressure. 

Scoring a century in international cricket is not that easy. There have been some matches in which both the openers have scored centuries. In this article today, we are going to talk about 4 Indian opening pair who both scored a century in one match.

KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma

The opening pair of KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma have always done well for India. In the absence of Shikhar Dhawan, Rahul and Rohit Sharma open the inning for India. Both the openers had scored centuries in the same ODI match against Sri Lanka.

It was a match played against Sri Lanka in the World Cup on July 6, 2019. The opening pair of Rahul and Rohit added 189 runs for the first wicket. Rahul had scored 111 runs while batting well in that match, while Rohit Sharma played an excellent innings of 103 runs.

Apart from this, both these batsmen had scored centuries again against the West Indies some time back. During the match held in December 2019, Rohit had scored 159 runs and Rahul played a brilliant innings of 102 runs.

Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar

Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar have scored a lot of runs for India as openers. There have been many matches when Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar scored centuries while opening the inning. 

In July 1998, there was a partnership of 252 runs between the two legends against Sri Lanka in which Sachin scored 128 and Ganguly scored 109. After this, in October 2001, against South Africa, both the batsmen scored centuries again while opening the inning. Sachin scored 101 and Ganguly added 127 in that match.

Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan

Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan are two of the most successful openers of the Indian team. Both the batsmen have done really well over the years. Rohit and Dhawan played wonderful innings against Pakistan in September 2018. There was a blistering partnership of 210 runs for the first wicket between the two where Rohit had scored an unbeaten 111 in that match while Shikhar Dhawan scored 114 runs.

Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag

Sachin and Virender Sehwag is considered one of the greatest opening pair of their time. The duo have been very successful at the top for the Indian. On 15 November 2003, both the Indian openers scored centuries against New Zealand. Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar scored 102 runs while explosive batsman Virender Sehwag had scored 130 runs.
