4 Indians who have done well in IPL and should be groomed for Test cricket

IPL and Test Cricket

There is a big gap between Test and T20 cricket. However, in recent months, we have seen some T20 specialists do well in the white jersey. The likes of Jonny Bairstow and Rishabh Pant are good examples of the same. Team India could try out more of this strategy in the future. On that note, in this article, we take a look at four Indians who have done well in IPL and should be groomed for Test cricket.

Scoring quick runs in Tests can be a big advantage. When bowlers have it their way, it is difficult to stop them. Hence, every run becomes important. On the other hand, bowlers can also take a leaf out of the T20 template by having a lot of variations in their armoury. This way, some of the T20 experience can be of good use in the red-ball format.

1) Umran Malik

Umran Malik is one of the Indians who have done well in IPL and should be groomed for Test cricket. While Umran has already earned a place in Team India's T20I setup, it may not be long before he gets drafted into the five-day squad. Pace is an important factor in Tests and Umran is consistent in this aspect. Yes, he has played very few FC games but the management must groom him so that he can develop into a good Test player.

2) Mohsin Khan

Mohsin Khan was a revelation in IPL 2022. He impressed fans with his pace, swing and ability to hit the hard lengths. Being a left-arm pacer, he will be very useful in the Test squad. Like Umran, Mohsin is also not that experienced in FC cricket. Hence, the management has the responsibility to groom him for the role.

3) Ishan Kishan

Ishan Kishan is also one of the Indians who have done well in IPL and should be groomed for Test cricket. If India has to fast-forward someone into the Test Team, they can think of Ishan Kishan. Technically, Ishan has not shown major weaknesses and hence, there is the platform to develop into a good Test player. While opening may not suit him, Ishan can be utilized in the same way that Rishabh Pant is being used by India right now. India will then have a good backup in the wicket-keeping department, too.

4) Shahbaz Ahmed

It was actually in FC cricket that Shahbaz first became popular. However, his form in IPL has put him in the limelight. India already has the likes of Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel and Saurabh Kumar for the role of the left-arm spinner. However, Shahbaz is a better bet with the bat than Axar and Saurabh. Therefore, he could come into the picture for the Test Team, especially for games at home.
