India 2023 ODI World Cup

Although the focus is on the 2022 T20 World Cup, the Indian Team management is also having a keen eye on the 2023 ODI World Cup. The selections made by the management in recent months have proved the same. In this article, we take a look at four Indians who should do well in the ODI series against West Indies to remain in contention for the 2023 World Cup.

India and West Indies will be involved in a few ODI fixtures in the coming weeks. Some youngsters will be part of this event. These cricketers will need to do well against West Indies or might have to see more hurdles on their way to a position in the 2023 ODI World Cup. We take a look at their names in the below sections:

1) Ruturaj Gaikwad

Ruturaj Gaikwad is one of the Indians who should do well in the ODI series against the West Indies to remain in contention for the 2023 World Cup. Although he did well in the last edition of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, opportunities have been hardto come by for Ruturaj. There is a lot of competition for the slot he specialises in, as well. Hence, he should be at his best if he wants to remain in contention for the ODI World Cup.

2) Shardul Thakur

Shardul Thakur position across all formats is not exactly cemented at the moment. While he is not being considered for the T20Is, if he does not perform well, he could be dropped in the other formats, as well. However, in ODIs, Thakur is likely to be backed. He has the knack of picking wickets in the middle overs and this is important. To maintain this reputation, he needs to do well against West Indies.

3) Mohammed Siraj

Siraj is one of the options for India to share the new ball. However, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami are the first options for this job. The likes of Deepak Chahar would also soon come into the picture. Hence, Siraj must do well so that he retains his position in the ODI Team. The pacer should also do well at the death so that he does not get dropped based on his economy in the death overs.

4) Sanju Samson

Sanju Samson is also one of the Indians who should do well in the ODI series against the West Indies to remain in contention for the 2023 World Cup. The Kerala batter has an abundance of talent but he is sometimes vulnerable to losing his wicket after good starts. If Sanju has to do well in the ODI format, he must work on this. There is a lot of potential in Sanju Samson as an ODI cricketer. However, he needs to respond with good displays. The upcoming West Indies series is important in this context.
