2023 ODI World Cup India

Team India had a terrible exit from the 2022 T20 World Cup. With this performance, many players might struggle to put their careers back on track. In this article, we take a look at four Indians whose ODI careers could be affected by their performance in the 2022 T20 World Cup.

The next big event for Team India is the 2023 ODI World Cup. It has to be won at all costs and because of the underwhelming shows of a few players in the T20 WC, they might even be dropped from the ODI squads. We take a look at four such names in the below headings.

1) KL Rahul

KL Rahul is one of the Indian cricketers whose ODI career could be affected by their performance in the 2022 T20 World Cup. At the moment, KL is too big a cricketer to be dropped straight away. However, in his ODI career, he will now not have a long rope. He will play in the middle order and has to perform or else, he could struggle to keep his spot in the XI. KL has the talent to do well and all he needs to do is fix his mindset.

2) Bhuvneshwar Kumar

From the recent selections for the Indian ODI squad, it is clear that Bhuvi is not in the plans. Now, after his show at the T20 WC, it can be confirmed that India might not have him in the team for the ODI format. Deepak Chahar is likely to get the nod ahead of Bhuvi. Even in the T20 squad, Bhuvi might struggle to get his chances.

3) Axar Patel

Axar Patel is also one of the Indian cricketers whose ODI career could be affected by their performance in the 2022 T20 World Cup. While Axar would still be a force on Indian pitches, the reliability on him has taken a hit after his performance in the 2022 T20 WC. India would now focus on having more options for this position. Some of the names include Washington Sundar and Shahbaz Ahmed.

4) R Ashwin

R Ashwin might now be restricted to Tests. Ashwin's defensive mindset in T20s is an asset but in ODIs, spinners need to collect wickets. Moreover, Ashwin did not have a great T20 World Cup. He has also had injury issues this year. Hence, Ashwin's ODI career may not be exactly great in the next one year.
