4 players CSK must target to improve their squad on Chepauk pitches in IPL 2023

Chennai Super Kings had a forgettable campaign in IPL 2022. However, next season, they can remain hopeful of doing well. This is because they will most likely be returning to Chepauk, where they will play seven games. Nevertheless, the squad must involve a few changes so that CSK can win most of their seven games in the stadium. On that note, in this article, we take a look at four players CSK must target to improve their squad on Chepauk pitches in IPL 2023.

The Chepauk pitch is extremely spin-friendly and is known as the fortress for CSK. Hence, the franchise must make a few intelligent signings ahead of the event. In this line, the management could set aside a few targets for the next edition. We take a look at four names who must be a part of this list.

1) Steve Smith

Steve Smith is one of the players CSK must target to improve their squad on Chepauk pitches in IPL 2023. On the Chepauk pitch, there is a necessity for batters who can accumulate runs. As seen in the past, such players receive value for their efforts. Of course, these players must also be adept at playing spin. Devon Conway is present in the squad but it is not sure if he would do well. Hence, the franchise can hire Steve Smith, who is good against spin and has a lot of experience. He can either open the batting with Ruturaj Gaikwad or play at No.3 with Moeen Ali opening the batting.

2) Shakib Al Hasan

 Mitchell Santner has done well but his contributions have not been exceptional for CSK so far. The franchise will need players who will have the ability to impact games consistently. Shakib can do that and he will be useful in Chennai. Moreover, his batting skills are better suited to the Chennai track than that of Santner. However, CSK will have to find a way to accommodate Shakib in the top order to make the best use of him.

3) Adam Zampa

Adam Zampa is also one of the players CSK must target to improve their squad on Chepauk pitches in IPL 2023. Although Maheesh Theekshana will be backed as the lead spinner, CSK should also target an experienced backup. Adam Zampa is one name that will be extremely effective in this regard. The Aussie is a wily customer and will offer variety to the CSK bowling attack.

4) Suresh Raina

Suresh Raina might have seen the end of his IPL career but if he thinks that he has more to contribute, CSK is the best franchise to back him. Raina has played the bulk of his IPL cricket in Chepauk. He knows the track very well and if not as a regular in the XI, Raina can at least be used as a backup middle-order batter. Raina also offers good off-spin to help the balance of the XI.
