4 players in last four seasons who got ruled out of the entire IPL after getting injured in their first IPL game of the season
Kane Williamson has been ruled out of IPL 2023. In an attempt to stop a six by Ruturaj Gaikwad, Kane fell hard on the ground and had to be taken off the field. Gujarat Titans have now confirmed that he will not be a part of the season. Incidentally, in each of the last four seasons, at least one player has got injured in their first game of the season. All of these injuries have had a big impact on the campaign for the team. On that note, in this article, we take a look at four players in recent times who got ruled out after getting injured in their first IPL game of the season.
1) Kane Williamson (Gujarat Titans) - IPL 2023
GT needed a calming influence in the batting line-up. They would have also liked someone who can be good against high-end pace and back-of-length bowling. At No.3, with his experience, Kane would have been a terrific option. However, in his absence, GT would not have an apt replacement. They might have to sign someone like Travis Head, who is in good form right now.
2) Ben Stokes (Rajasthan Royals) - IPL 2021
Ben Stokes is one of the players in recent times who got ruled out after getting injured in their first IPL game of the season. It was in the field that Ben Stokes got injured in IPL 2021. While he got ruled out of the season, he pulled out of IPL 2022. It is only in IPL 2023 that he is making a return and he is now representing the Chennai Super Kings. Stokes has had injury issues in the past but he is now choosing the tournaments he wants to play. This way, he is keeping himself it.
3) Nathan Coulter-Nile (Rajasthan Royals) - IPL 2022
Coulter-Nile is another injury-prone cricketer. In IPL 2022, in the first game for RR, the Aussie was in the final over of his quota. However, in the follow-through, he suffered a problem and later, he had to be ruled out of the season. He has similarly missed IPL in the past due to injuries. Considering RR needed a pacer who can bat in IPL 2022, NCN would have got a few chances if he was not injured.
4) Mitchell Marsh (Sunrisers Hyderabad) - IPL 2020
Mitchell Marsh is also one of the players in recent times who got ruled out after getting injured in their first IPL game of the season. Marsh is one cricket who is very injury-prone. In IPL 2020, it was while he was bowling that Marsh hurt his leg. He missed that season and came back only in IPL 2022. Now, he hardly bowls and he has also found a new batting role at No.3. He would hope that he gets a consistent injury-free run in IPL to showcase his skills and gain some useful experience.
