4 players who can get a chance in the ODI setup due to their performances in IPL 2023

India Debut

In recent years, we have witnessed many occasions when the Indian selectors have not drawn a line between different formats. However, with the ODI World Cup nearing, they don't have an option but ti try out T20 performers in the ODI format. In this article, we take a look at four players who can get a chance in the ODI setup due to their performances in IPL 2023.

T20 and ODI formats are both derivatives of the white-ball game. While T20 asks for intent straightaway and for the bowlers, they also need to think about containing runs, in ODIs, there is a lot more time for both. However, in terms of general skillset, there are a lot of common requirements.

1) Tilak Varma

Tilak Varma has all but confirmed his spot in the Indian Team. It won't be a surprise if he also gets a chance in the ODI squad. In the absence of Rishabh Pant, India needs a left-hander in the middle-order. This player has to be good against the spinners. Since Tilak himself can also offer a few overs of right-arm off-spin, a lot of balance issues would be sorted out if India picks someone like Tilak Varma.

2) Rinku Singh

Rinku Singh is one of the players who can get a chance in the ODI setup due to their performances in IPL 2023. Although he has become popular for his finishing skills, based on his domestic record, it needs to be noted that Rinku has a more complete game. His base against the pacers is good and can also do well against the spinners. In the finisher's role, if India needs a left-hander, they can definitely try out someone like Rinku.

3) Jitesh Sharma

Jitesh Sharma has been extremely consistent with his contributions down the order for Punjab Kings. While he had impressed many with his ability to take down the spinners in IPL 2022, he is doing the same against the pacers in IPL 2023 and that shows his development. In Pant's absence, India is using KL Rahul as the keeper. The likes of Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan are also available but Jitesh Sharma is also an option that the selectors can consider.

4) Mukesh Kumar

Mukesh Kumar is also one of the players who can get a chance in the ODI setup due to their performances in IPL 2023. The Bengal pacer already earned a spot in the Indian Team but could not make his debut. This was before his IPL debut. In IPL 2023, he has shown that he can be effective with the ball and can also execute variations in the death overs. In this context, Mukesh would be a decent addition to increase the depth of the Indian fast bowling in the ODI format.
