4 players who have under-valued themselves for IPL 2023 Auctions

IPL 2023 Auction

IPL 2023 Auction will happen on December 23rd in Kochi. It will be a mini-auction but a few teams will look to fill some key spots in their XI and hence, this auction will be important for them. In this article, we take a look at four players who have under-valued themselves for IPL 2023 Auctions.

At times, players put themselves in the lower base price bracket although they deserve to be at the top. This is mainly to give themselves a chance to earn a contract and not get unsold. We take a look at some of the names below:

1) Mayank Agarwal - INR 1 Cr

Mayank Agarwal is one of the players who have under-valued themselves for IPL 2023 Auctions. Arguably the biggest Indian cricketer to go under the hammer in the auction, Mayank has surprisingly put himself in the INR 1 Cr base price bracket. It is interesting to note that in the last season, he was drawing a salary of more than INR 10 Cr. However, of late, his form has been poor and just to avoid any surprises, Mayank might have registered in this category.

2) Joe Root - INR 1 Cr

Joe Root is an elite Test cricketer and also a good ODI batter. T20 cricket is not a necessity for him now and anyways, the next T20 World Cup is in 2024. Yet, the player has put himself in the INR 1 Cr price bracket when lesser experienced cricketers have got themselves in the highest bracket. Now, if anyone picks Root at his base price, he will have to spend almost two months without the guarantee of game time when there is Ashes for which Root also has to prepare. Hence, it was a debatable decision by him.

3) Shakib Al Hasan - INR 1.5 Cr

Shakib is also one of the players who have under-valued themselves for IPL 2023 Auctions. Yes, in recent years, he might not have played a lot of IPL cricket but Shakib is a fine T20 cricketer, especially with the ball. He can also pull off the anchor job as a batter. Hence, for his experience, it appears that he could have set his base price at INR 2 Cr.

4) Harry Brook - INR 1.5 Cr

Harry Brook is one of the highly talented T20 batters right now. Recently, he helped England win the 2022 T20 World Cup. He does well in the middle order, which is a rarity for youngsters coming through. While players such as Craig Overton, Chris Jordan and Tom Banton are in the highest bracket, it is interesting that Brook has valued himself INR 50 lakhs lower.
