4 players who were close to making India debut recently but never happened

India debut

Team India is spoilt for choices ahead of almost every tournament. There is plenty of depth in cricketing resources in the nation. It is extremely hard for a player to get a chance in the XI even if he or she performs consistently. On that note, in this article, we take a look at four players who were close to making their India debut recently but never happened.

Cricket is a dynamic sport and sometimes, even if a player is close to finding a place in the XI, that might never happen. The player then needs to start from scratch to earn the chance again. This has happened with a few cricketers recently. We take a look at their names below:

1) Rahul Tewatia

Rahul Tewatia is one of the players who were close to making their India debut recently but never happened. While he was selected for the England series in 2021, Tewatia did not find a chance due to fitness reasons. Later, the player never got a chance to play for India or even get selected for the Indian Team. In IPL 2022, he was in brilliant form for Gujarat Titans. He was instrumental in closing out a few chases. Yes, he might not have found success as a bowler but he compensated for it by single-handedly taking GT across the line with the bat. Tewatia has to show his skills as an all-rounder and only then a chance awaits him.

2) Shreyas Gopal

A couple of years ago, Shreyas Gopal was in top form. He was consistently scoring runs and taking wickets in domestic cricket. In IPL, he had a few seasons of top performance with the ball. At that time, India was looking for a backup for Yuzvendra Chahal. Shreyas Gopal's name was in the discussions. However, that never happened. For now, it looks hard for the cricketer because his form has dropped and India has the likes of Ravi Bishnoi on the bench.

3) Shahrukh Khan

Shahrukh Khan is also one of the players who were close to making their India debut recently but never happened. In Shahrukh Khan's case, a place in the Indian Team can still happen because he possesses all the skills. However, when it was close to happening a year ago, it did not happen. Since then, he failed in IPL 2022 and did not have a great outing in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy this year.

4) Saurabh Kumar

Saurabh Kumar was part of the Indian Team for a few tournaments. He is a left-arm spinner who was in the squad whenever Ravindra Jadeja or Axar Patel were unavailable. In one of the games, he was close to getting his debut but India opted for a different combination. He has now lost his spot but a strong domestic season can help him return to the setup.
