4 players who were signed as replacements midway in IPL 2022 but still became part of the XI

Replacement in IPL 2022

It is common to see replacement signings being midway through an IPL campaign. In a long tournament like IPL, injuries are common and franchises make the move to replace them. However, since these players were not picked at the auction, it might be hard to expect them directly in the playing XI. However, this has happened in multiple instances in ongoing IPL 2022. In this article, we take a look at four players who were signed as replacements midway through IPL 2022 but still became part of the XI.

If a player is not picked at the auction, he is unlikely to be in the team's plans for the season. However, based on how the campaign goes, a team might change a strategy or two. Some of the replacement players will come into the picture then. Hence, they get a chance in the playing XI.

1) Rajat Patidar (Royal Challengers Bangalore)

Replacement for Luvnith Sisodia

Rajat Patidar is one of the players who were signed as replacements midway through IPL 2022 but still became part of the XI. In IPL 2021, Rajat was part of RCB. However, he was released and not signed at the auctions. That said, after Sisodia got injured, Rajat came into the squad. He got a chance in the XI and has already made a few vital contributions. He is now set to retain his place in the XI and maybe in the squad for IPL 2023, as well.

2) Tristan Stubbs (Mumbai Indians)

Replacement for Tymal Mills

A highly-rated youngster in South Africa, Mumbai Indians signed Stubbs as the replacement for Mills. It was not a like-to-like replacement because Stubbs is a wicket-keeper. MI might have made the signing keeping the future in mind. The youngster got to play a game against CSK recently. He replaced Kieron Pollard in the XI. He did not have a great outing but it will be a good learning curve for him.

3) Kumar Kartikeya Singh (Mumbai Indians)

Replacement for Md Arshad Khan

Hailing from Madhya Pradesh, Kartikeya Singh is also one of the players who were signed as replacements midway through IPL 2022 but still became part of the XI. A left-arm mystery spinner, Kartikeya had a good game on his debut. Since then, he has been taking important wickets for the team. The player has good skills to excel in the T20 format and MI might see him as a part of the spin attack in the future.

4) Harshit Rana (Kolkata Knight Riders)

Replacement for Rasikh Salam

Harshit Rana was part of Gujarat Titans as a net bowler in IPL 2022. However, after Rasikh Salam got injured, KKR hired the player as a replacement. Harshit even got a couple of games to play. With so many injuries in the camp, Harshit was able to take the field. His performances have been decent and it needs to be seen if KKR will retain him for the future.
