5 Indian players who were selected for 2021 T20 WC but may not be part of the 2022 T20 WC

T20 WC 2022 & 2021

2021 T20 World Cup was a tough pill to swallow for Team India. Despite huge expectations, the team got knocked out from the group stage itself. Hence, we can see multiple changes in the squad for the 2022 World Cup. In this article, we take a look at 5 Indian players who were selected for the 2021 T20 WC but may not be part of the 2022 T20 WC.

The 2022 T20 World Cup will happen in Australia. While conditions will define the selection of a few players, current form and skill-based selections will also impact the final squad. A few players from the previous event will not be part of the upcoming tournament. We take a look at a few of them in this piece.

1) Ishan Kishan

Ishan Kishan is one of the Indian players who were selected for 2021 T20 WC but may not be part of the 2022 T20 WC. The young cricketer was the reserve opener for the last year's event. However, going by his current form, it is unlikely that he will make the cut for the mega event. There are many other options such as Prithvi Shaw, Rahul Tripathi, and Sanju Samson who are doing well currently. Hence, the Jharkand man might miss out on the trip to Australia.

2) Mohammed Shami

Shami could not do well at the T20 WC last year. Since then, he has not played much for India in the shortest format. In IPL 2022, Shami has made name for being a gun powerplay bowler. However, his record at the death has not been great. Since India needs someone to bowl both at the death and in the powerplay, Shami might not get selected.

3) R Ashwin

R Ashwin is also one of the Indian players who were selected for the 2021 T20 WC but may not be part of the 2022 T20 WC. The spinner made his comeback to T20I cricket with the T20 World Cup last year. However, with the likes of Kuldeep Yadav performing better than him, Ashwin might lose his spot. Moreover, there is also Washington Sundar who will be in the race this time around for the right-arm off-spin slot in the squad.

4) Rahul Chahar

The leggie was preferred over Yuzvendra Chahal last year. However, Chahal is in red-hot form right now and it is almost impossible to drop the cricketer. Rahul has also been inconsistent and is not picking a lot of wickets. The likes of Ravi Bishnoi and Kuldeep Yadav are ahead of him in the leg-spinner's slot. Hence, the Rajasthan youngster will have to lose his place.

5) Varun CV

Varun CV was picked for the mystery element but he could not do well. The same form is now being seen in IPL. He is hardly collecting wickets and hence, the Tamil Nadu man may not get selected for the squad to Australia. The player needs to improve his fitness and skills inorder to force a comeback to the Indian Team.
