5 oldest players in Asia Cup 2022

When the T20 format started, many mentioned that the format was reserved for youngsters. However, as the format evolved, the experienced players came to have an influential effect on the proceedings. On that note, in this article, we take a look at the five oldest players in Asia Cup 2022.

Teams are now not shying away from including older players provided they add value to the team. Recently, we saw the rise of Dinesh Karthik at 36 when many counted him as retired. A few other teams are also dependent on experienced cricketers for Asia Cup. We take a look at the names in this article.

1) Ehsan Khan (Hong Kong) - 37 years 244 days

Hong Kong's Ehsan Khan stands at the top of the list of the oldest players in Asia Cup 2022. A right-arm off-break bowler, Ehsan has played 31 T20Is for Hong Kong so far. He has picked up 39 wickets at an economy at just around 6. This is a stunning record so far and hence, he has been selected for the Asia Cup. It needs to be seen how he would perform against the likes of India and Pakistan.

2) Mohammad Nabi (Afghanistan) - 37 years 227 days

Nabi is a veteran in the T20I format. Ever since the game of cricket took an upward lift in Afghanistan, Mohammad Nabi has been a part of the core. This time around, he will lead the squad at the Asia Cup. As an all-rounder, his performance will be vital for his team's performance.

3) Dinesh Karthik (India) - 37 years 68 days

Dinesh Karthik is also a part of this list of the oldest players in Asia Cup 2022. As mentioned earlier, until recently, DK was not part of the plans for Team India. However, after a terrific IPL 2022, he has earned his way back to the Indian T20I Team. He has performed well in the opportunities that he has got so far and looks set for a place in the T20 World Cup squad.

4) Mahmudullah (Bangladesh) - 36 years 190 days

The former skipper of Bangladesh, Mahmudullah is an important player for Bangladesh. He will be expected to close games with the bat and also provide a few overs of spin. His performance will be crucial to the team's chances.

5) R Ashwin (India) - 35 years 325 days

R Ashwin also features in this list of the oldest players in Asia Cup 2022. There are plenty of 35-year-olds in the competition including Indian skipper Rohit Sharma. However, Ashwin is older than them all. The Tamil Nadu off-spinner, after a gap, was re-introduced to the T20I squad. Since the event is happening in the UAE, he could have an important role to play.
