5 players from IPL 2022 who might get released and be unsold for next season
As seen in recent years, franchises have become less tolerant of non-performers. We have seen that despite the reputation, some big names are getting dropped from the XI in recent seasons. At times, some of these cricketers might find it hard to get a bidder for the next season. On that note, in this article, we take a look at five players from IPL 2022 who might get released and be unsold for the next season.
IPL 2022 has been host to a few cricketers who failed to do well despite their reputation. This season has also shown that investing in youngsters could help teams reap rewards instantly and also, in the long term. In this narrative, a few players could find it hard to find a contract next season. We take a look at a few of them in this article.
1) Ajinkya Rahane - Kolkata Knight Riders
Ajinkya Rahane is one of the players from IPL 2022 who might get released and be unsold for the next season. Although his first game in the season was good, Rahane could not deliver in the other encounters. He has made a comeback to the playing XI but it is unlikely that KKR would retain him. For Rahane, a comeback to the Indian T20 team is almost impossible. Hence, he might even consider pulling out of next season and participating in the County Championship. Even if he enrols for the auctions, there might not be too many teams who might be interested in him.
2) Daryl Mitchell - Rajasthan Royals
The Kiwi all-rounder was one of the last-minute signings for RR at the auctions. Although he has not been used at his preferred position, RR might release Mitchell for next season. The player has not shown promise of delivering in the games that he played. Hence, he might not earn attention in the next auctions.
3) Sheldon Jackson - Kolkata Knight Riders
Amidst much expectations, Sheldon Jackson got a lot of chances this season. However, he has not been able to justify his position in any of these matches. Considering his age, franchises might not be interested in Jackson's services. If KKR releases him, it won't be a surprise if he goes unsold for IPL 2023.
4) Tymal Mills - Mumbai Indians
Tymal Mills is one of the players from IPL 2022 who might get released and be unsold for the next season. Although he was in good form in other events, Mills could not do well for Mumbai Indians. He got injured and was later replaced by Tristan Stubbs. While Mumbai might release him, considering his one-dimensional contributions, other teams might not be too eager to hire him. Hence, the Englishman can go unsold at the event.
5) Vijay Shankar - Gujarat Titans
Despite multiple opportunities, Vijay Shankar could not do well in IPL 2022. Therefore, Gujarat Titans might release the all-rounder. Unless he has an excellent domestic season, it is unlikely that he will feature next season. There are still things that could go his way but at the moment, his prospects in IPL are looking bleak.
