5 players who did not play a single game in IPL 2022 but might still be retained
While all franchises strive for success in every edition, almost all of them also have an eye on the future. Due to the auction format, there is no guarantee that a specific player can be hired in the future. Hence, a team might buy the cricketer now and groom him for the future. In IPL 2022, as well, there were a few such cases. On that note, in this article, we take a look at five players who did not play a single game in IPL 2022 but might still be retained.
Of course, apart from the aspect of the future, the team combination also requires franchises to retain a few players despite not playing a game in the current campaign. These players might act as a suitable backup or could have also impressed the management while on the bench. Hence, such cricketers might also be retained.
1) Yash Dhull (Delhi Capitals)
The failure of the likes of Mandeep Singh and KS Bharat prompted many to ask Delhi Capitals to hand debut to Yash Dhull. However, the Indian U19 captain did not get a chance. That said, hailing from the Delhi Capitals academy, Yash is sure to be retained. He is a promising cricketer and at the Ranji level, he has already showcased his skills. Therefore, keeping an eye on the future, Yash is likely to be in the DC squad for IPL 2023, as well.
2) Rajvardhan Hangargekar (Chennai Super Kings)
Despite the presence of spots for Indian pacers in the XI, Rajvardhan did not make his debut. Later, MS Dhoni clarified that the Maharashtra all-rounder is a developing cricketer and it might not be fair to ask him to perform right away. This means that the player is all set to be retained for future campaigns.
3) Arjun Tendulkar (Mumbai Indians)
Arjun Tendulkar is one of the players who did not play a single game in IPL 2022 but might still be retained. The cricketer has been warming the bench and did not get a game even in IPL 2022. Nevertheless, there is an expectation that he will come good and hence, Arjun might be retained.
4) Noor Ahmad (Gujarat Titans)
Noor Ahmad is a terrific young player and will surely become an elite cricketer in the future. Rashid Khan is the preferred spin option in Gujarat Titans but it may not be a surprise if the management unleashes both Noor and Rashid together in future. It is an exciting prospect and therefore, Noor is likely to be retained.
5) Jason Behrendorff (Royal Challengers Bangalore)
Jason Behrendorff is also one of the players who did not play a single game in IPL 2022 but will still be retained. Due to Josh Hazlewood's good form, Jason did not get a game. However, Jason is a good left-arm seamer and can be extremely dangerous at the start of an innings. Next year, there is the 50-over World Cup and it won't be a surprise if Josh skips IPL. Jason can be a suitable backup because the other established pacers are already in other squads. Therefore, to be on the safer side, Jason might be retained by RCB.
