5 released players franchises could look to re-sign

Released players IPL 2023

On November 15th, teams announced the list of players retained and released. There were a few surprises but most decisions were on the expected lines. On that note, in this article, we take a look at five released players franchises could look to re-sign.

While players are released mainly due to their form, sometimes, franchises will also release them because of their high price-tag. Hence, at the auctions, they could look to re-hire the cricketers at a lower price. Also, if they fail to get a suitable replacement for that player at the bidding event, they might go with the same player again. With the below names here, that could happen in IPL 2023 mini-auctions.

1) Nicholas Pooran - Sunrisers Hyderabad

Nicholas Pooran is one of the released players franchises could look to re-sign. Price-tag seems to be the only reason for Pooran to be released by SRH. The franchise would definitely need a left-hander in the middle order and if they fail to get someone like Ben Stokes or Sam Curran, Pooran will be the best bet for them. The player might want to play higher up the order and if the franchise can afford that, they could reap the benefits out of signing the West Indian player.

2) Dushmanta Chameera - Lucknow Super Giants

Mark Wood might play in IPL 2023 but he is too injury-prone. LSG needs backup and Chameera was a good backup option for Wood. He was also playing at a not-so-expensive salary. Therefore, the franchise could look to re-hire the Sri Lankan pacer at the auctions.

3) Jason Holder - Lucknow Super Giants

Jason Holder is also one of the released players franchises could look to re-sign. It seems that salary is the main reason for Holder's release by LSG. The franchise is associated with the player in SA20 League, as well. Therefore, they might choose to re-hire the cricketer if they do not get access to players such as Ben Stokes or Sam Curran. Also, with Avesh Khan being inconsistent for India, a player like Jason Holder will be necessary for the franchise.

4) Prerak Mankad - Punjab Kings

It was surprising that Prerak was left by PBKS. He is doing well in domestic cricket and therefore, it won't be a surprise if the franchise will have a re-look at the youngster. In the long-term, this could be a good move for the franchise.

5) Vishnu Vinod - Sunrisers Hyderabad

Vishnu Vinod is also a part of this list of cricketers whom the franchise might target to sign again. SRH will need a backup keeper as Glenn Phillips is not a proven cricketer in the IPL. Although they have released him, SRH could still try to get hold of Vishnu at the IPL 2023 Auctions. In Vishnu, SRH will get a player who can play in multiple positions and this flexibility would benefit the squad.
