India's win in the 2007 T20 World Cup is a memorable one. After the failure in the 2007 ODI World Cup, not many expected India to pull it off. However, a lot of planning went behind the victory. Some hard decisions also had to be taken. In this article, we take a look at 7 popular players who were in India's probables for the 2007 T20 World Cup but did not get selected.

In the past, BCCI first used to name a list of probables before the main event. This allowed the selectors to focus before sitting down to select the final squad. For the 2007 T20 World Cup, some popular players such as Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar were not included in this list.

1) Zaheer Khan

Zaheer Khan is one of the popular players who were in India's probables for the 2007 T20 World Cup but did not get selected. The left-arm pacer was a senior cricketer then. However, India already had the likes of RP Singh and Irfan Pathan in the squad and hence, Zaheer did not get a chance.

2) Suresh Raina

Suresh Raina was a promising youngster then. While he did not get a chance for that event, later on, he became a fine T20I cricketer. For a long time, he also dominated in the Indian Premier League.

3) Cheteshwar Pujara

Saurashtra's Pujara was also one of the popular players who were in India's probables for the 2007 T20 World Cup but did not get selected. Back then, Pujara was also being considered for the other formats. However, the player did not get selected for the event.

4) Mohammed Kaif

Kaif was a good middle-order batter but was not known for his strike rate. Hence, he might have been excluded. Even in the IPL, Kaif struggled to leave an impact. He played for teams such as Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bangalore.

5) Ishant Sharma

Veteran pacer Ishant Sharma is also a part of this list of popular players who were in India's probables for the 2007 T20 World Cup but did not get selected. Ishant Sharma oozed a lot of excitement back then but was too raw to be tried at the highest level. Hence, he was not given a chance.

6) Munaf Patel

Munaf enjoyed a fine stint with Team India. In the 2011 World Cup, the pacer had an important role to play. Although he was on the probables list for the 2007 T20WC, he was not selected for the event.

7) Praveen Kumar

Praveen Kumar was doing well in domestic cricket. It was only in 2008 that he impressed all when he performed brilliantly in the Commonwealth series in Australia. Hence, he not being selected for the 2007 T20 WC was not a surprise.
