Aakash Chopra urges Royal Challengers Bangalore to release star pacer Mohammed Siraj after disappointing IPL 2022
Former Indian cricketer and now a analyst Aakash Chopra has urged Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to release their star bowler Mohammed Siraj after the pacer's mediocre performance in the IPL 2022.
In what was their first season in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, Gujarat Titans walked out victorious to lift the Trophy beating Rajasthan Royals, who beat the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Qualifier 2.
Royal Challengers Bangalore had a season where some unexpected faces upped their game, the likes of Shahbaz Ahmed and Dinesh Karthik, meanwhile, their star players, such as Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell and even pacer Mohammed Siraj had a mediocre season.
Siraj in particular, who was impressive in the last 2 seasons for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), had a season to forget for the India international bowler. And now, former cricketer Aakash Chopra has hit back at it, stating that RCB should release the player.
In a video uploaded on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra stated that Siraj was retained for 7 crores but his performance was not upto the mark, thus they should release him. But then added, if they release the pacer, they also need a Indian pacer, whom to get. He suggested that Siraj should be bought back in the auction for a less price.
"You may release him. If you release him, whom will you get, that's a big question because you will have to get an Indian bowler. You can buy him back cheaper actually, he will not be sold for seven crores now," said Mohammed Siraj.
As for Siraj's performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season, Siraj could only manage 9 wickets and bowled with over 10 economy rate. The pacer has also been excluded from the Indian team's squad for the upcoming India vs South Africa T20I series.
