"Alot of countries have done that"- Gautam Gambhir believes India should look beyond Rohit, Rahul and Kohli for 2024 T20 WC
India announced a 20-member squad for the T20Is and ODI series against Sri Lanka starting on January 3. The T20I squad saw Hardik Pandya as captain, with all senior players rested from the team. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, and Virat Kohli are part of the ODIs.

Former Indian batter and one of the key members of the 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup wins, Gautam Gambhir, believes that if the Indian team management wants to move on from the senior players in T20Is, there is nothing wrong with it.

Gambhir also said that the communication between the board and senior players should be transparent. Suryakumar Yadav will be the vice-captain in the T20Is. However, giving rest to the seniors might be an indication for the future. Even veteran pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar couldn't make the team.

In an interview with ESPN Cricinfo, Gambhir said that the problem in India is that when the management looks beyond a certain individual, there is a lot of hue and cry. He indicated that if India is planning for the 2024 T20 World Cup, then they should take such decisions.

The former opener said, "If the selectors have decided to look beyond these guys, so be it. A lot of countries have done that. If these guys haven't been able to achieve that, the younger generation like Suryakumar can go on to achieve that dream."

India suffered a humiliating defeat in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup at the hands of England by 10 wickets. But throughout the tournament, the approach of India's top three was always in question, especially in the power play.

Gambhir believes that India should have a clear plan for the 2024 T20 World Cup to be played in the USA and West Indies. He also said that it is likely to happen that Rahul, Virat, and Rohit might not make it to the next world cup.

The former opener added that the likes of Sanju Samson, Prithvi Shaw, and Rahul Tripathi can take an aggressive template forward. Furthermore, he also concluded that the younger generation can achieve the brand of cricket India wants to play.
