BCCI announces huge prize money for India's women's team for winning the inaugural U19 T20 World Cup
India qualified for the final with a comprehensive win over New Zealand in the semi-final a couple of days ago. And now they have beaten another strong opponent to register history on Sunday. On the other hand, England beat Australia to make it to the final.
India won the toss and elected to bowl first. And the Indian bowlers continued their form, which they had shown earlier in the tournament, and proved that the decision to bowl first was right. They limited the strong batting lineup of England to just 68 runs all out in 17.1 overs.
For India, Parshavi Chopra, Archana Devi, and Titas Sadhu took two wickets each, while Shafali, Mannat Kashyap, and Sonam Yadav picked up one wicket as the Indian team didn't allow the opposition to get going. Ryana MacDonald Gay (19 off 24) was the top run scorer for England.
Chasing a small target, skipper Shefali (15 off 11) provided a decent start, then Soumya Tiwari (24*) and Gongadi Trisha (24) helped India chase down the target in 14 overs and make 69/3 to win by seven wickets and lift the inaugural women's U19 T20 World Cup.
As soon as India won the final, the congratulations started to pour in from across the globe. Everyone lauded the effort of the Indian women's U19 team. Meanwhile, BCCI secretary Jay Shah also announced a cash prize of INR 5 crore to the victorious Indian team and the support staff.
