Best playing 11 of cricketers who are on standby for the 2022 T20 World Cup

After the pandemic, it has become necessary for teams to have a lot of backups in the squad. In the past few tournaments, this has become a norm. Therefore, teams are also naming standby players or travelling reserves along with the main squad. In this article, we take a look at the best playing XI of cricketers who are on standby for the 2022 T20 World Cup.

It is almost inevitable that there are injury issues in a big tournament like the T20 World Cup. Therefore, more often than not, we see these standby cricketers eventually game or two at the main event. We take a look at the best XI comprising such cricketers.

Openers: Innocent Kaia and Soumya Sarkar

It will be a Zimbabwe and Bangladesh opening combination for the best playing XI of cricketers who are on standby for the 2022 T20 World Cup. It is very rare that pure batters are included as reserves in a squad. However, that depends on the combination of the team and hence, managements do not shy away from such selections. In this regard, Zimbabwe's Kaia and Bangladesh's experienced Soumya Sarkar make up the opening combination.

Middle-Order: Fakhar Zaman, Shreyas Iyer, Dinesh Chandimal (WK), and Gulbadin Naib 

Fakhar Zaman has multiple issues but his form is the main concern. He will be one of the standby cricketers for Pakistan. The same is the case for Shreyas Iyer, who will be the automatic backup if any batter gets injured in Team India. Dinesh Chandimal is enjoying good form in the other formats and for his experience, he has earned a place in the reserves. Gulbadin for Afghanistan will be the team and hence, he is also a part of the XI.

All-Rounders: Liam Dawson

Liam Dawson will be the sole all-rounder in the best playing XI of cricketers who are on standby for the 2022 T20 World Cup. Very few all-rounders have been named as standby for the upcoming event. Nevertheless, Dawson is part of the English contingent and will be a part of the XI.

Bowlers: Deepak Chahar, Mohammed Shami, Ravi Bishnoi and Tymal Mills

One of Deepak Chahar or Shami could be named as the replacement for Jasprit Bumrah in the 2022 T20 WC. The likes of Umran Malik and Mohammed Siraj could also be in the discussions. Nevertheless, for now, Shami and Chahar will be a part of this XI. Ravi Bishnoi has been in fine form and will be the backup for India's spin attack. Tymal Mills is with England and will come in if one of the left-arm seamers gets injured in the main squad.
