"Stay off Twitter" - Graeme Smith suggests IPL star to stay away from social media and improve his game
After being left out of the squad for the T20I series in Ireland, former South Africa captain Graeme Smith says it's critical for Rahul Tewatia to focus his disappointment into developing and make sure he's never overlooked again.
A day after the BCCI senior selection committee announced the squad for the Ireland T20Is, set for June 26 and 28, Rahul Tewatia sent out a cryptic tweet, writing "expectation hurts". Rajasthan royals skipper Sanju Samson returned to the Indian side and many players from the squad which played against South Africa have retained their place.
Rahul Tewatia has been knocking on selectors' doors in recent months, and in IPL 2022, he demonstrated his improved finishing ability by playing a major role in Gujarat Titans' winning run. He smacked 217 times with a batting average of over 30 and a strike rate of around 150.
Rahul Tewatia was one of the main reasons for Gujarat Titans in their last over finishes this season.
India has a lot of skilled players. The selectors, Rahul and Rohit, now have a good sense of who will make up the majority of the squad and who will compete for the remaining slots. So it's difficult to sit here and say something. We know he's done exceptionally well, but there's a lot of competition out there "While discussing India's T20I team for the Ireland visit, Smith told Star Sports.
Meanwhile, Sunil Gavaskar, a legendary Indian batsman, believes India might have accommodated Rahul Tewatia, especially given his composure during the IPL 2022 for Gujarat Titans. Gavaskar also pushed Tewatia to work harder in the future to ensure he becomes an obvious member of the Indian T20I team.
But for this World Cup, for many cricket fans it will be very hard for Rahul Tewatia to get a place in the squad since India has already Dinesh Karthik and Hardik Pandya firing and Jadeja will walk into the 11.
