"He is right choice for captaincy" DC Head Coach Rocky Ponting backed Rishabh Pant after DC disqualified from Playoffs
Rishabh Pant made some tactical errors on the field against Mumbai Indians last night that cost them the game. However, that didn't go well with the DC skipper as he faced backlash from many on social media.

However, DC head coach Ricky Ponting has backed the young skipper and said that he is still the best person for the job. It happened on the very first ball faced by Tim David off Shardul Thakur, which he knicked, and it was caught by Pant behind the wicket.

Both the bowler and the keeper applied for it, but it was overturned by the on-field umpire. However, DC had both reviews left but they didn't go upstairs, which was shown later on the big screen that it was a clear knock.

That was the match-turning moment as, after that, Tim David changed the whole match in favour of the Mumbai Indians with his blistering knock of 34 off just 11 balls.

During the post-match conference, DC's head coach said that Pant is undoubtedly the right candidate for the captaincy role. He also pointed out that Pant did a really commendable job since he took charge after Shreyas Iyer's shoulder injury.

Ponting said that Pant is still young and learning the tactics of the game. He added, "Being a T20 captain in the IPL is not easy because of pressure, and unfortunately, every single thing you do will be scrutinised. He certainly got my full backing."

The DC head coach also discussed the reasons why they lost the match. He said that it's hard to point out one thing, but the top-order didn't contribute much. However, he also praised Tim David and said that it was disappointed that DC missed the chance to review, when he was gone first ball.

Ponting concluded, "I feel pretty gutted that the game slipped through out of our hands. We didn't close out the match in the last few overs.

MI captain Rohit Sharma also backed Pant, saying that it happens in pressure games where things go in such ways, but he is a quality skipper and has led his team exceptionally well. He added, "He (Pant) can take a lot of learning and try and keep things simple, and it is important to not doubt yourself."
