Here's how Mumbai Indians can still qualify for playoffs in IPL 2022

Mumbai Indians

Former five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians have gotten off to their worst start in any IPL season this year. MI have been a part of the league since 2008 and have participated in every season. But never in any IPL season before 2022 have they lost their first six matches on a trot.

This year, the Mumbai Indians are last in the IPL 2022 points table with no points to their name from six matches. MI have lost their fixtures against the Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders and Lucknow Super Giants.

Captain Rohit Sharma has tried new strategies and combinations in almost every match but nothing has worked for the Mumbai Indians this year. Some fans feel that the Mumbai-based franchise has already been eliminated from the race to the playoffs. However, it is not 100% true.

Mumbai Indians still have a mathematical chance of qualifying for IPL 2022 playoffs

If a fan looks at the IPL 2011 points table, the only previous 10-team IPL season, the team that finished fourth had 16 points. So that means Mumbai Indians need to win all of their remaining eight matches to qualify for the playoffs in IPL 2022.

It is very tough but fans have seen many miraculous things in the IPL’s rich history. In fact, in 2014, Mumbai Indians lost their first five matches and still made it to the Top 4.

This year, they have lost one more, but that has not put curtains on their campaign. Looking at the tight situation on the points table, it should not be a surprise if a team with 14 points also finishes in the Top 4.

Mumbai Indians should aim to win all eight matches or at least seven games to be hopeful of a place in the next round.
