Ajinkya Rahane has been ruled out of the IPL and England Tour due to a Grade 3 hamstring injury

The two-time champions, Kolkata Knight Riders, have one more game left in the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League. They are sitting in sixth place with 12 points on the table. They can still make it to the top four, but it will totally depend on their win in the next match and how the other team performs.

KKR will face Lucknow Super Giants in the 66th TATA IPL 2022 match on Wednesday, May 18 at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai. just a couple of days left in the match, they faced a big setback in the form of veteran opener Ajinkya Rahane, who has been reportedly ruled out of the IPL.

It was reported that Rahane suffered a Grade 3 hamstring injury and left the IPL bio-bubble on Monday. The injury is so serious that he will not be part of the one-off Test match to be played in England at the end of July, which was postponed last year due to the COVID outbreak.

Notably, after a few good performances in the IPL, he had a chance of making it back to the Indian Test side. But this injury has led him to stay away from cricket, at least for the next 3-4 months. He sustained the injury during a match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, played on May 14.

Further reports suggest that the BCCI has confirmed that the former Indian Test skipper will now head on to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore for his rehab process, which will take more than four weeks. So far, Rahane hasn't had the numbers in this season. He has scored only 133 runs in seven matches he has played.

He hasn't been consistent enough to feature in the playing XI for the KKR this season and this injury will not help his future plans. He only plays Test cricket, and with India expected to play mostly white-ball cricket this year, his chances of returning to the national team have been harmed by this injury.
