"History Created"- Twitter erupts after India's Women enter the final of CWG 2022 after beating England
India's women have created history as they have beaten one of the strongest teams and the hosts of the Commonwealth Games 2022, England, in front of their home crowd to march to the finals of the CWG 2022. India won the match with a close finish by four runs at Edgbaston, Birmingham.
With this win, India has secured a medal in cricket and now they will face the winner of the second semi-final between Australia and New Zealand. The second semi-final will start at 10:30 pm at the same venue. The final match will be played on Sunday, August 7 at Edgbaston, Birmingham, at 9:30 pm.
It all started with the toss as India chose to bat first after winning the toss. Both openers gave India a rocking start. In particular, Smirthi Mandhana, who brought up a 23-ball half-century. She got out after scoring 61 runs off 32 balls, with eight fours and three sixes.
The Women in Blue did tumble a bit in the middle overs. But Jemimah Rodrigues stood firm and played an important innings. She remained unbeaten on 44 off 31 balls with seven fours. India made 164/5 in their 20 overs.
England started very well, scoring 28 runs in the first two overs. But then Deepti Sharma came to give India their first breakthrough. However, skipper Natalie Sciver added a good partnership with other batters to take the match very deep. She added 50+ runs with Amy Jones (31 runs).
In the end, England needed 27 runs off the last two overs and India held their nerve to clinch a win to make it to the finals. Twitter was also flooded with appreciation for the Indian women who have created history.
