Royal Challengers Bangalore is in heaven! The IPL's "bridesmaids" defeated Lucknow SuperGiants by 14 runs to set up a match against Rajasthan Royals in Ahmedabad on May 27. And the occasion will be the IPL 2022 Qualifier 2. The Eliminator began in dismal conditions, with rain delaying the start of the match at Kolkata's Eden Gardens. After the rain delay, Lucknow SuperGiants Captain KL Rahul won the toss after a more than an hour wait and chose to bowl first. His pacers backed up his choice by eliminating the RCB's top three batsmen inexpensively.

Then, off the back of an uncapped Rajat Patidar's unbeaten 112 off 54 balls, packed with 12 fours and seven sixes as the vaunted Lucknow pace attack faded, with none getting more than a wicket. Patidar, who came in late in the season as an injury substitute, found the ideal partner in Dinesh Karthik who scored  unbeaten 37of 23 balls.

"I think it's quite obvious - the reasons why we didn't win. We let ourselves down in the field. Dropping easy catches never helps. Difference was obviously Patidar playing such a knock. When someone in the top three scores a hundred, more often the team wins," Rahul said after the match. Patidar was dropped thrice on the day en route to his hundred and Rahul was livid with his team's fielding. "They fielded really well and we were poor," he summed it up.

He however was happy that as a new franchise they finished in the top four in their first season. He said that he will take back a lot of positives. It's a new franchise. We've made a lot of mistakes, every team does that. Have to try and come back stronger. It's a young team. They'll learn from their mistakes, go back home and try to be better players.

There was special praise for Mohsin Khan, who once again was a shining star in an otherwise poor bowling effort. He also said that Mohsin Khan will be able to clock much higher speed as the time progresses. He said that Mohsin Khan will learn a few more skills and contribute to the team in the next season.

After beating the Lucknow SuperGiants, RCB will play against the Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 2 in Ahmedabad and the winner will lock horns against the Hardik Pandya led Gujarat Titans in the final of IPL 2022.
