Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Punjab Kings have started work for their next Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 campaign. Meanwhile, the assistant coach of the team has also been announced. Former Australia player Brad Haddin has been made the team's assistant coach. Prior to this, Trevor Bayliss was made the new head coach. Bayliss has been brought in in place of Anil Kumble.

Speaking to PTI, a Punjab Kings source said that Haddin has been appointed as the assistant coach and the rest of the support staff will be appointed and announced soon.

Along with the sacking of Kumble, other staff were also discharged from Punjab Kings team. Jonty Rhodes, a former South African cricketer, was the assistant coach of the team. Apart from him, Damien Wright was working as the bowling coach. Rhodes was associated with Punjab Kings since before the IPL 2020.

The Punjab based franchise is looking to win their maiden IPL trophy under Bayliss. Under the coaching of Bayliss, Kolkata Knight Riders won two titles in 2012 and 2014. Punjab's performance in IPL has been not so good.

In the last four seasons, the team has been placed sixth in the points table. Under the captaincy of Mayank Agarwal, the pressure of winning the title on this team will remain at the new season as well. Every season the Punjab Kings team has had strong players but the victory was not destined. This time some more players can come in the team through mini auction that is likely in December.
