India jumped to second spot in World Test Championship; Here's how India can qualify for the WTC Final
Kuldeep, who made his comeback in test format after 18 months, won the "Man of the Match" award for his 8 wickets in the match, along with a crucial 40 runs with the bat in the first inning. Cheteshwar Pujara also scored 90 and unbeaten 102 in two innings of the game.
With this win, India went up to the third spot in the ongoing World Test Championship 2021-23. However, that was not it. On the other hand, Australia also beat South Africa in the first game of the three-match test series at the Gabba on Sunday, which ended in India's favour.
South Africa, who was sitting at the second spot on the WTC table, has slipped to third after their loss with 55.77 points, while India has jumped to the second spot. Australia is firm at the top after the win at the Gabba.
India and South Africa are currently fighting for the second spot in the WTC table to qualify for the final. Meanwhile, the defending champions, New Zealand, are struggling at the 8th spot and are out of the race with only two victories in the nine games they have played.
India has five more games to play in their WTC cycle. They will play one against Bangladesh in the ongoing series and then host Australia for a four-match Test series in February. If they win all five games, then they will directly qualify for the final.
However, the Indian team will be eagerly awaiting the result of the Australia vs South Africa series. If Australia wins the series 3-0, they will qualify. Then India needs to win the remaining game against Bangladesh and win at least three out of four against Australia at home.
