India to host Australia for three-match T20I series ahead of T20I World Cup in September: Reports

The Indian cricketing calendar is always jam-packed and with two ICC World Cups in the coming 18-20 months, it is getting more and more hectic. Indian players are currently engaged with the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League and just after that, the Men in Blue will host a five-match T20I series with South Africa.

At the end of June, India will fly to the UK for the fifth and last Test match of the last year, which was postponed due to the COVID outbreak and white-ball series. Notably, as per the latest developments, a media report has confirmed that the Indian team will also play a three-match T20I series at home in September with Australia just before the T20I World Cup.

This series will be held in preparation for the upcoming World Cup. As per the report from foxsports.com.au, the Men in Yellow will play T20I series both at home and away with New Zealand, West Indies, Zimbabwe, and England, and will now play three more T20Is in India in September. The report further added, "The series will serve as a preparation for the showpiece event to be held in Australia in October and November this year."

Both teams will also play in the next assignment of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, hosted in India for a four-match Test series in February and March next year. However, with so many series to be played before the upcoming World Cup, it will be a great opportunity to try out the new talent.

The 15th season of the IPL has entered its final stage and only a few final matches are left for the teams. It will end on May 29 and the first T20 match against South Africa will start on June 9, which will end on June 19. There are still 5–6 months left until the upcoming event. However, India will also play in the Asia Cup before that. So the selection committee would like to consider each and every player before choosing the best combination for the mega-events.
